About Our Festival

The “African Diaspora Dance and Drum Festival of Florida” is an annual three day cultural arts educational event that fosters a rich sense of cultural heritage and awareness. It serves as an outreach event that attracts attention locally and nationally while connecting the African Diaspora to the community.

We feature many events including:

  • dance & drum workshops
  • symposiums
  • a dance & drum concert featuring the festival artists and guests
  • children’s village
  • and a vendor marketplace

There are also a wide range of activities throughout the 3-day event:

  • drum and dance workshops from West Africa and the Caribbean
  • participants experience dancing, drumming and singing with native West African instructors
  • play traditional African instruments
  • dance bare foot in traditional African attire
  • sample authentic cultural dishes

Special happenings include:

  • yoga
  • Children’s Village:  free dance & drum workshops, hula hoop class, face painting, storytelling, arts & crafts
  • Rites of Passage for Children and Families
  • our Cultural Community Outreach Development (C.C.O.D.) award presentation
  • a raffle drawing
  • and an artist panel discussion.

Other highlights:

  • a Doundoun Drum & Dance Fusion Intensive workshop
  • a dance, drum & music concert featuring Delou Africa Dance Ensemble (D.A.D.E.) and our invited guest artists
  • a Cultural Reception on Saturday night

Our symposium topics offer alternatives to a better and healthier life style. Our amazing participants and supporters represent all walks of life which enhance and promote our mission to bridge gaps and preserve African culture. We will continue to provide an on-going platform to showcase the rich traditions of Africa through dance, drum, music and history that affords the community the opportunity for expression, growth and appreciation in a supportive and nurturing environment.
